Family homelessness has skyrocketed by 36.3% in the DC Metropolitan area since 2008. *
Housing and shelter resources have not kept up with this increase, leading to unkempt facilities and residents whose needs are not being met.

Understanding this crucial need, My Girlfriend’s House developed The Shelter Room Makeover Party, a community initiative that renovates the living spaces of shelters that house women and their families in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Through the program, the teen girls that we mentor learn the importance of giving back to those less fortunate than themselves.They experience first-hand what it is like to live in a shelter and how a little bit of help goes a long way. With the help of volunteers, they work as part of a team to renovate the living areas and create an oasis for the residents.
