The Sierra Burley Excellence in Design Award provides a unique opportunity for room captains of the semi-annual Shelter Room Makeover Party to showcase their design creativity and innovation. The winners of the Design Awards embody traits of an advocate, motivator, design innovator and leader – values that exemplify the passions and values held by My Girlfriend’s House.

In Memory Of
As an organization, we are committed to showing our girls the importance of empowering women to overcome circumstances that can have a harmful impact on their safety, health and livelihood.

Our girls are constantly learning how to address issues of abuse, personal safety and domestic violence. So when one of our committed volunteers, Sierra Burley, fell victim to a senseless act of crime, we felt compelled to honor her loving memory and the impact she made in such a short time of her life.

Sierra Burley was a vibrant and philanthropic young woman who dedicated much of her time to furthering her education, helping others and giving back to her community. As a committed volunteer with our organization, Sierra’s impact was greatly felt through our Shelter Room Makeovers, where she actively worked to create the perfect living oasis for women and children in need. This award honors the time and commitment of women like Sierra, whose passion and hard work allows them to selflessly empower women everywhere.

Entry Information
All Room Captains are automatically entered into the competition.

Categories
Awards are issued in each of the following categories.

• Best Kitchen Design
• Best Bathroom Design
• Best Adult Bedroom Design
• Best Child’s Bedroom Design
• Best Common Space Design
• Best Hallway Design
• Best Use of Colors and Patterns
• Best Use of Furniture/Decor

Judging
The winning design projects will be judged by a panel of home and design professionals who will represent all aspects of the interior design community. Entry submissions will be judged on the appropriateness of the design and the successful integration of multiple design and renovation elements. One winner from each category will be selected.

Winners
The award creates an opportunity for room captains to have their designs recognized by the media, politicians and executive leadership team of the shelter we partner with- all of whom will be present during room’s big reveal.

Photos of the winning project will be featured on our social media sites, on the company’s website and in a news release. The winning Room Captains will also receive a trophy of excellence.
