“Here’s the official album of what went down this weekend at Hyacinth’s Place, a NE, DC transitional shelter for women suffering with mental illness, for our semi-annual Shelter Room Makeover Party. The rooms were a blank slate where tight spaces created major organizational challenges for the residents, while lack of resources prevented the facility from getting much needed upgrades. 15 one-bedroom studio apartments with kitchenettes and full bathrooms; 2 common-use bathrooms; a library/computer room; 1 large kitchen/dining room; a large serenity garden w/a gazebo and upper level balcony; 4 large hallways with sitting lounges; and a reception lounge area; 198 female volunteers; 22 “boyfriends”; 5 hours of work. Thank you so much for all the women and men, that showed up and showed off!! We did it….again!!”
